Obituary of Andrew Schmitt

Andrew (“Andy”) Schmitt was a son, brother, husband, father, and a friend to many. Andy passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 67. He was born on September 16, 1957, in Brooklyn, NY where he grew up with many friends and an enduring passion for sports. According to his friends, he was the most talented football player they ever knew and was like an ox on the field with incredible speed. A gifted athlete in his youth, Andy shined brightest on the football field, showing off his exceptional strength and skill. He was also known for his quick wit and unparalleled sarcastic sense of humor, which endeared him to his many friends. His sharp comebacks and laughter-filled stories were the highlight of every gathering, bringing joy and a good ribbing with his friends. He also loved cats, and there is a good memory by the family of Andy finding a tiny kitten after a football game, and all these big tough guys just fell in love with this tiny kitten who the family adopted and named “Horse” and she lived a nice, long life with the Schmitt family. Though life brought Andy profound challenges, including the loss of his beloved wife, Christine, over four years ago, he continued to love his daughter, Gillian, and he took immense pride in watching her grow and flourish. Andy is survived by his cherished daughter, Gillian; his three siblings, Theresa, Michael (and daughter, Alexandra), and Tara; and a wide circle of friends who admired him deeply. His passion and humor touched the lives of all his friends who knew him best. Please feel free to gather with your friends who knew and loved Andy whenever and wherever you feel appropriate and have a toast to him as you celebrate his life with stories of happier times.
