Andy Schmitt, my beloved cousin--a strapping tower of resilience and athletic strength--makes my soul sturdier just by remembering him and the love and fun we all shared as kids growing up in a more innocent time. His roots are deep. His branches, beautiful, as they stretch to the sky of a family his devoted love created. His overstory of friends, I hear, is broad and rich. An understory, nurturing, to the family members he loved in our sturdy forest. Wild, free and loving. His humor is a gift that will live on and chatted about among the woodpeckers as they remain focused on digging in and using the great gifts their creator gave them to prep for winter. Like an "Andy" to emulate. May his soul cycle across the snowy trails of a Vermont forest. His spirit soar with the osprey whose nests rise high with hope into the new life of spring. His sturdy foundation of support offer warm summer sunshine to his beloved so raw in their grief. May the life he created feel his toasty sense of love and wit whenever their leaves fall. May you know he stands tall with the trees. With love and support...I honor you, Great Cousin. Love, Gwen of Vermont

Schmitty and I were very close during our High School days playing Varsity Baseball and PAL football together. But most of our time was in McKinley School Yard playing touch football and softball. Great memories of our youth. I had not seen him in over 30 years until a St. Ephrem’s reunion a few years ago, and it was the same Schmitty snarky and funny as I remembered.
RIP buddy you will be missed

My favorite memory of Andrew (aside from his caustic wit) was his performance of "Money makes the world go round" in one of our St. Athanasius Theater Group Variety Shows. I was totally surprised and delighted by it. RIP Andrew.

Schmitty was one of a kind. Great ball player and killer wit. Very intelligent - especially about history.
Nothin matched the love and admiration he had for his daughter Gillian and his wife Christine. He took great pride in Gillians scholastic abilities
He did things his way - which did not always work out best - but he had a huge heart and will be missed

Q: What will you never forget about Andrew?
A: Shmitty as I would call him . Really good friend in grammar School St. Ephrams .We hung out together in Highschool and played rough touch football in triangle park every Sunday. He was a tremendous football player. A big guy that could move quickly. We also played baseball for Fort Hamilton High school. Now he can be together with his wife. He missed her dearly.
Rest in peace buddy you are definitely one of the good ones.

Schmitty (as we all called him) and my husband Ray Kyne were very close friends for a very long time!! Ray passed suddenly after cardiac arrest June 30, 2023.
This group of friends have brought so much laughter in to our home. The great memories of their childhood till adult hood were more than most and I hope this brings his friends and family peace. They had a full wonderful life while on earth and I hope they continue doing so wherever they are singing galtymore songs, playing football and enjoying a beer or 2 or more!!
You will be missed Schmitty!! ❤️
Rest in peace!
Deb
