Obituary of Lorraine Handal
Please share a memory of Lorraine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
My Mom, A very special, unique, strong and at times, loud Italian. In our youth she took me and my siblings all around New York’s varied cultural performances and events. Often, our group included our neighborhood friends, Frankie, Sallie, Jennifer who to this day continue to be dear to my heart. Metropolitan Museum, Natural History, Fiddler on the Roof, Hello Dolly, Man of LaMancha, Radio City and country excursions to the farm in Pennsylvania. Joyous, memorable times that I treasure.
A performance of Hair in Central Park, where a prize was awarded for the largest family. Well, of course it was Lorraine’s. There were fourteen of us and my brother conveniently had a twin, our friend Frankie. Some questions were raised, as there was no resemblance. We went home to Brooklyn with our prize, a pair of stilts which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Mom insisted that we should be exposed to a wide array of experiences and that would allow us to discover what we enjoyed.
As the years passed and she became home bound, we would enjoy the soundtrack of Les Misérables. The wondrous melodies bringing us both to tears. Tears of joy. Love you Mom, Lawrence
