When you attend a funeral, you must follow some basic etiquette and know how to interact with other attendees. However, if you have never attended a funeral in the past, you might not be aware of what to expect.

Things To Expect At A Funeral Service

We at Blair Mazzarella Funeral Home, recognize that it can be challenging to know to expect at a funeral. Here is some information that can help:

  • A funeral is a somber event; however, some families prefer to have a celebration of life. This event celebrates the life the person lived and is more casual than a traditional funeral service. Before attending the service, you should find out what type of service the decedent’s family is planning.

  • Be punctual and arrive at the funeral service venue about 15 minutes before the mentioned time. It’s a good way to ensure that you do not cause any disruption when the service is in progress. It will also help you find a good parking spot near the entrance to the funeral home.

  • People attending the funeral will be in mourning and you must know that they will express their grief in different ways. Some individuals are reticent and quiet, while others will be more willing to talk and interact with the attendees. You should behave accordingly and respect their feelings and wishes during this difficult time.

  • When you approach the family to express your condolences, judge what their state of mind is, keep your interaction brief, and then offer your condolences. Do not offend the family by being over-talkative.
