Obituary of James Rafferty

James (Jim) was born in New Jersey on September 21st, 1958 to parents James L. Rafferty Sr & Kathleen (Foy) Rafferty. He passed away peacefully, after complications from a long-term illness on May 20th, in his home, in the city he loved.

 

He is survived by father James L. Rafferty Sr. ; children Megan Rafferty-Miner and James (Jessica) Rafferty; Grandchildren Emmersyn, John, and Cecilia Miner & Landon and Reed Rafferty; Former companion Carol Rafferty; Siblings Patricia Gillette, Michael (Trish) Rafferty, and David (Kim) Rafferty; Nephews & niece Sean Rafferty & Breanne (John) Allen, Stephen & Tyler Rafferty, Dylan & Jack Rafferty; and many beloved cousins. He was predeceased by mother Kay, brother Stephen, grandson Ian,and brother-in-law Ed.

 

Jim was a true New Yorker who embodied the spirit of the city where he spent most of his life. He also  enjoyed many years living in the Florida sun. Jim graduated from Mahopac High School and Paul Smiths College. He was enamored with his Irish heritage and culture and traveled there many times. He retired from USAir, after making sure to utilize as much free flying as possible.

 

A private memorial service will be held at a future date.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James' name to David Lawrence Center, to assist others with mental health and substance use disorders achieve recovery
