Obituary of Maria Dubovici
Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maria Dubovici, beloved wife of Mihai Dubovici, loving mother to Natasha and Marius, caring mother-in-law to Mara and Gera and treasured grandmother to Alex, Brianna and Christopher, passed away peacefully on 05/16/2025 at the age of 80.
Born on February 13, 1945 in the village of Remeti (Maramures County, Romania) to Ileana and Mihai Moldovan, Maria Dubovici was the oldest of four girls. She cherished and always held dear to her heart her younger sisters, Ana, Axenia and Marta.
She was a nurse – by education, but most of all by true call. Throughout her life she pursued her calling both as a certified nurse in Romania and as a caring home attendant in New York.
In 1981 she left Romania together with her husband, Mihai and their two young children, Natasha and Marius in pursuit of a new, better life in the United States. Since then, she proudly called New York and Brooklyn her home and though many hardships and opportunities alike, with patience and endurance she succeeded to build a new long, fulfilling and meaningful life. She never forgot her home town, her Ukrainian-Romanian heritage, and she remained deeply rooted, going back and supporting the community of Remeti for as long as she was able to do so.
A remarkable woman whose life was totally dedicated to her family and God, she was an incredibly kind, warm and generous person, known for always putting family first and creating a warm and loving home where everyone felt cherished.
She enjoyed hosting and gathering everyone around the table, making sure that no one leaves with an empty stomach. From Christmas traditional feasts to casual evening dinners, she made sure that everyone is happy and full.
While every member of the family was important to her, she had 3 shining lights or “Her 3 Vitamins” as she would always call her grandchildren: Vitamin A – Alexander; Vitamin B – Brianna, and Vitamin C – Christopher. Countless stories could be told about the impact she has had in their lives and about the legacy she leaves behind in their hearts.
Always a strong and healthy person, she took health issues very seriously: first by tending to her husband, then to the rest of her family and then for herself. But she was not spared. Cancer found her in August of 2024 when she was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. She took the diagnosis with stoicism and with deep faith in God, used her human strength, her knowledge and her determination to fight it and get better. She had successes and setbacks with her treatments. She was keen on following doctors’ directives and treatments even if she knew the road would be long and bumpy. Yet she always drew hope and courage from the loved ones around who were worth to be living for.
Until one day … when against all efforts, her frail (already) body could no longer take it and her soul decided it was time to find solace with God. Thus, in the morning of May 16, 2025, after months of battling the hideous cancer, our BABA departed this world to reach for The Lord’s arms.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Mihai Dubovici, her children, Natasha and Marius, her daughter-in-law MMara and like son-in-law, Gera and her grand-children Alex, Brianna and Christopher. Her legacy will live on through them and through the generations to follow.
Until we meet again, BABA!
