Obituary of Janiqua "Speckle" Farris
Please share a memory of Janiqua to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janiqua Farris, born on August 28, 1980, in Brooklyn, New York, transitioned peacefully on April 29, 2025. She was the youngest child of Adapha Beach and Ralph Allen, and a cherished sibling to Joey, Joel, and Nicholas. She is also survived by a loving host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
As a child, Janiqua moved to North Carolina, where she resided with the Farris family-her extended family-who nurtured and supported her during her adolescent years. She remained in North Carolina through high school and into early adulthood, until the age of 21, when she returned to New York to be closer to family and pursue her passion for cosmetology.
Janiqua identified proudly as a trans woman and lived her life out loud, boldly, and unapologetically. She walked through life with courage and grace-uplifting others through her truth, her creativity, and her love.
A talented artist in many ways, Janiqua worked in multiple salons throughout Brooklyn, where she brought joy, beauty, and confidence to her clients. She also loved cooking, doing makeup, and fashion. Her warm spirit and infectious smile made her a light in every room she entered.
Janiqua was also an active and proud member of The Center, Manhattan's LGBTQ Community Center, where she found community, strength, and belonging.
Though she faced personal challenges-including battles with addiction and mental health-Janiqua's life was a testament to resilience and love. She lived with intention, gave generously, and left an indelible mark on every heart she touched.
She is now at peace-free from pain, surrounded by light, and remembered always for the love, laughter, and beauty she brought into this world.
