Please share a memory of Charlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charlene Harrison was born in Brooklyn NY to the late John and Christanna Harrison on February 9,1963. She was named after her favorite cousin Charles also known as Pete and her aunt, Pearline. Charlene was the youngest of four and the only girl, making her spoiled and if you ask her brothers; annoying. She was educated by the NYC School system, attending P.S. 56, JHS 258, Boys and Girls High and Medgar Evers college. In 1984, She graduated from the Allen School of health and Science as a certified nursing assistant. She grew up in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn on Quincy Street and later moved to Monroe. She touched the hearts of the families on both blocks and made friend ships that lasted her entire life. She was well known in the neighborhood. There wasn’t a person around that didn’t know Charlene and to know her was to love her. She was a self proclaimed comedian with an award winning smile and a heart of gold. Known for her witty come backs and sarcasm. In 2011 she suffered from a stroke and joined Brighter way Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Pastor James, she was reacquainted with her spiritual roots and became a part of a new church family. She loved church functions, giving her the opportunity to make a pineapple coconut cake, a recipe passed down from her Mother. Charlene began dialysis treatment at Rogosin Dialysis center and was transported by Good day Transportation service where she met and adopted her driver Javauni Harrison as her nephew. Dialysis was rough for her but she found comfort in the staff and people that became her friends along the way. She loved her family and friends often keeping in contact through early morning phone calls while on her way to dialysis. Charlene lived for a social event, she enjoyed hosting Thanksgiving and Cook outs in the summertime. She would call everyone in her contact list and invite them for a plate. Her fiancé, Eddie was always the last to know, but he was in charge of the food. Her planning was backwards but it always worked out. She enjoyed watching old westerns, playing candy crush and there was nothing like a good card game. Her daughter, Jimmica and Grandchildren, whom she affectionately called her heartbeats were her world and she had no problem letting everyone know. she took being a Mother and Grandma serious. Charlene departed this earth on Tuesday, April 15, 2024 at Methodist hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents: Christanna and John Harrison, her Brothers: Clinton Fogg and Kevin Harrison.
