Remembering Lionel McGuire
(Uncle, Big Mac, Lyo)
Lionel McGuire, affectionately known as Uncle, Big Mac, and Lyo, was born on March 11, 1940, to the late James (Daddy Mac) and Julia (Tan Julie) McGuire in San Nicolas, Aruba. Lionel spent his early years between Carriacou and Aruba, where he attended school. In 1963, he migrated to the United States, eventually settling in Brooklyn, New York. There, he created lasting memories in his beloved apartment, fondly known as the "Bull Ten." It was a place full of laughter, warmth, and countless moments spent with friends and family.
Lionel was A well-traveled man, Lionel visited family in the islands and in Europe, although Lionel didn't have children of his own, he often was accompanied by a niece or nephew as his travel companion. His adventurous spirit and love for exploration were only matched by his deep affection for his loved ones.
Lionel worked for many years as a maintenance worker with the New York City Housing Department until his well-earned retirement. Known for his reserved nature, Lionel was also a fun-loving, kind, and caring individual. He was cherished by all who knew him and left an imprint of love and warmth on everyone's heart.
Lionel will always be remembered as a devoted uncle, brother, and friend. He leaves behind his brother David (Sonny), sisters Agatha and Laurel, a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews, great-great-grandnieces, relatives, and close friends.
Though he is no longer with us, Lionel's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed.
